Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 19th: Dean Smith (Brentford)

Brentford head coach Dean Smith has been voted by you as the 19th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Smith is the 19th best manager in the Football League. This is his first time on the Top 20 Managers in the EFL countdown.

Because of the way clubs get through managers so quickly, Smith has ended up being one of the longest serving managers in the Sky Bet Championship. Whether you think that’s a sad fact of life in modern football or something that Brentford should be praised for is up to you. But having this stability is obviously working for the Bees.

That’s because despite losing many of their key players at the start of the season, with most of them heading to Birmingham City, the West London side continue to improve. With their size and so many losses to their playing squad, it would have been fair to consider them likely to be fighting against the drop. However they have been doing the opposite for that as they have been lurking outside the play-off places for most of the season. While they didn’t end up breaking into the top six, it was still a great achievement for Brentford.

With them being close to the play-offs this season, Smith will be hoping to push the club into those positions to give themselves a chance at a historic promotion into the Premier League.
