Barnsley fans react to getting relegated to League One

Barnsley are back in League One after suffering relegation from the Championship yesterday.

The Tykes lost 4-1 to Derby County at the IPro Stadium and Bolton Wanderers’ dramatic 3-2 against Nottingham Forest at the IPro Stadium meant they and Burton Albion slipped out of the division.

Barnsley’s relegation also resulted in Jose Morias leaving the club after an unsuccessful stint in charge. They now find themselves looking for a new manager over the coning months.

Former Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is the early favourite for the vacant role at Oakwell. He was born in Barnsley and played over 250 games for them in his playing days and remains a popular man there. Other names such as Lincoln City’s Danny Cowley, Uwe Rosler, former Bradford City boss Stuart McCall and St Mirren’s Jack Ross are also being mentioned.

Whoever takes charge at Oakwell will want to mount a promotion push but will have to cope with losing some key players over the coming weeks with Andy Yiadom set to leave on a free transfer and Oli McBurnie set to return to his parent club Swansea City.

Relegation to League One will be a tough one to take for Barnsley fans and especially under the circumstances of Bolton’s win. Here is how their fans reacted on Twitter to their relegation-
