Rochdale fans react to staying up in League One

Rochdale have managed to defy the odds and stay up in League One on a manic final day.

The North-West side beat Charlton Athletic today 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Joe Thompson. Plymouth Argyle’s defeat to Gillingham meant the Addicks still got into the Play-Offs.

Rochdale were fighting with Oldham Athletic for survival today. They played Northampton Town and drew 2-2 meaning they slipped into the bottom four and have been relegated to League Two.

The Dale’s nail biting 1-0 win sparked great scenes at Spotland as they have managed to stay up this season despite looking doomed for much of this season.

Their manager, Keith Hill, has done an outstanding job with them again this season and has further enhanced his reputation amongst their fans.

On the other hand, Oldham Athletic will be devastated after dropping into the fourth tier and have a lot to consider over the summer. It will be difficult for them next season but their fans will be hoping for a promotion push and a return to League One as soon as possible.

It is now party time for their North-West rivals Rochdale and they can now look forward to another season in the third tier. Here is how their fans reacted on Twitter to them staying up-
