Former Ipswich striker in the running for managerial role at Portman Road

Former Ipswich Town striker Shefki Kuqi is in the running to fill the managerial void vacated by Mick McCarthy at Portman Road last month.

Kuqi is 8/1 with Bet Victor, via Oddschecker, and third favourite to take over at his former club.

Ipswich are currently managerless after Mick McCarthy dramatically quit the Tractor Boys after a 1-0 victory over Barnsley in April.

Kuqi played for Ipswich on three separate occasions during 2003 and 2008, scoring 34 goals in 94 appearances.

The striker also earned 62 caps for the Finnish National side, scoring on eight occasions.

He was given the nickname the ‘Flying Finn’ due to his absurd and famous goal celebration.

Kuqi made his managerial birth with Finnish side FC Honka in the Finnish First Division.

He then moved to PK-35 Vantaa, before taking the reins at FC Inter Turku in 2016.

He has never managed outside of his home Nation, so it would be a risk to appoint the 41-year-old.

However, Tractor Boys owner Marcus Evans has recently revealed that it will be a new era under the new manager – and Kuqi’s appointment would bring some optimism to Portman Road.

He was a fan favourite with the Town faithful, and in June 2017 he disclosed that it will always be his dream to manage Ipswich.

Paul Hurst is currently the favourite for the job after an incredible season with Shrewsbury Town.

The former Grimsby boss has guided the Shrews too the League One playoffs despite being tipped to go down at the beginning of the season.

Chris Coleman and Paul Cook are also ahead of Kuqi in the bookies favourites.

It’ll be an interesting summer for Ipswich Town, but Kuqi will be hoping he’ll be in the hot seat come the start of August.
