John Terry gives an update on his future at Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender John Terry will stay at the club if they are promoted to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mirror.

He will be out of contract at Villa Park at the end of the season, but the former Chelsea man has admitted he will prolong his stay in the Midlands if the club gain promotion.

Villa have already guaranteed a playoff spot and they will face either Middlesbrough or Derby County in the Semi Finals.

Terry’s future seems dependent on the clubs success in the 4 team tournament.

If Villa win the Playoffs, then the likelihood is that he will captain the Villains in their return to the top tier.

However, if Villa are unsuccessful, then Terry will most likely depart after only a season in Claret and Blue.

Speaking to the Mirror, Terry said “It was a big decision for me to leave Chelsea and come to Villa but I have settled in very well and been welcomed.

“It is in my contract (to stay) if we go up, and fingers crossed and touch wood we do, then I will be staying another year.”

The centre back was made captain by Steve Bruce as soon as he arrived from Chelsea in the summer.

He has played 32 times in the Championship this year, scoring a single goal against Fulham in October.

If Terry does decide to call time on his playing career at Villa, he could retire from the game and turn his hand to coaching.

“I am on my A licence in the summer and whatever happens then I will be ready to coach and manage with the work in progress in my A licence.” He added.

“I will be prepared whether I decide to carry on playing, or if I decide to stop. I will be ready to go depending what options I choose.”

The Villa faithful will be hoping for a successful playoff campaign, and will hope it will be enough to lure Terry back to the club for another year.
