A number of Sky Bet Championship clubs have been chasing Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, including Leeds United and Derby County.
It seems that he is destined to leave the ABAX Stadium this season, after an excellent season which has left him as the top goal scorer in the Football League.
After Peterborough’s final game at the season, Jack Marriott will officially be awarded the Sky Bet League One golden boot, but he will not be starting that game.
Posh boss Steve Evans has decided to leave him out of the starting line-up due to the interest in him over recent weeks.
The official club’s Twitter page posted this tweet after the line-up was announced:
Due to significant interest in him over the last few days, the decision has been made by the gaffer not to start Jack Marriott today but the gaffer has named him on the bench should he be required to come on. #PORvPET

It’s hard to imagine that he won’t be introduced at some point. He has become a fan favourite with Peterborough United fans after an excellent debut season, and the Posh faithful would not take too kindly to not being able to say goodbye to their top goal scorer.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has all but confirmed recently that Marriott would be leaving the club, after the Irishman rejected bids in the region of £4 million for the 23-year-old striker in January.
Interestingly, Marcus Maddison, who is also a target for a number of second tier clubs, including Leeds United, does start for Peterborough.
It is also likely that Maddison will leave the club, but it isn’t as firmly set in stone as Marriott’s imminent departure.
Jack Marriott joined Posh from Luton Town last summer for an undisclosed fee, and he hasn’t looked back since he bagged a hat-trick in pre-season.
He started the season on fire, with a treble at Bristol Rovers followed by a brace at home to Rotherham, and Posh fans will have plenty of excellent memories of their front man.
