Neil Warnock targets “biggest achievement” of his career

Cardiff City manage Neil Warnock has said that earning promotion to the Premier League with the Welsh side will be the biggest achievement of his career.

The Bluebirds head into Sunday’s final game of the season knowing that a victory at home to Reading will be enough to see them promoted to the top flight automatically. If they fail to win, Fulham will be on hand, and a victory for the Cottagers at Birmingham City will see them leapfrog Cardiff into second place.

Warnock has been in charge of the Welsh club since October 2016, and has turned their fortunes right round.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Cardiff boss said:  “You make mistakes as a manager, say things you shouldn’t and have wars at times, but I want to be remembered in the right way and this would be my biggest achievement by miles.”

“When you look at the state of this club 18 months ago, even to be challenging at this stage is a miracle. But miracles do sometimes happen and I am hoping we can provide another one this weekend.”

Warnock is often criticised for the way in which he goes by his work, but few can argue that he has got the ability. If Cardiff are promoted this season, Warnock will break a record, and it will be the seventh time he has achieved this.

“The opportunity was here to create what I was always looking for – the eighth promotion. That’s what brought me back into the game,” he said.
