Leeds United pundit would welcome signing of Premier League defender

The season is not yet over, and Leeds United are already being linked with a number of players.

It is hardly surprising though. The Whites had a poor season, and after chairman Andrea Radrizzani targetted a top six finish following his takeover last summer, Leeds are currently struggling in mid table.

The Whites sacked Thomas Christiansen in February, and appointed former Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom as his replacement.

Now, as the summer transfer window approaches, Heckingbottom is preparing to stamp his mark on the current squad, which he of course inherited.

But one of his top targets this season is a player who Leeds United fans are more than familiar with.

Kyle Bartley enjoyed a successful loan spell at Elland Road during the 2016/17, and almost helped Leeds squeeze into the Play-Offs under Garry Monk.

He returned to parent club Swansea City, but has struggled to hold down a starting spot at the Welsh side, and is expected to be sold this summer.

It’s a deal that the majority of Leeds United fans want, and a deal that BBC Radio Leeds pundit Noel Whelan thinks would be excellent for the club.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Whelan said: “I wouldn’t mind seeing Kyle Bartley back. He is a leader. He is one of these people that spoke very honestly after games.”

“We have missed him this season, absolutely no shadow of a doubt about that,”

Leeds United’s final game of the season is this Sunday, as they host Queens Park Rangers in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd at Elland Road.
