Derby County boss speaks of ‘renewed togetherness’

Derby County boss Gary Rowett has insisted there is a new togetherness amongst his squad ahead of the Rams’ crunch game with Barnsley this weekend.

Derby head into the final weekend of the Sky Bet Championship season knowing a point would be enough to guarantee a place in the Play-Offs. Failure to pick up a point will give Preston North End a chance to swoop in and finish in the top six.

The odds are heavily in the Rams’ favour, but it will not be an easy game. Barnsley know that they need to pick up points, otherwise they are in serious danger of being relegated back to the third tier.

The pressure will be on Derby in front of their home fans, but Gary Rowett insists that his players are ready.

As quoted by the Derby Telegraph, the former Birmingham City and Burton Albion boss said: “I think there is a bit of a renewed togetherness,”

“I feel as though the last few games we have been really together in terms of a group where maybe before that with not having as good a run everyone blames everyone else.”

The togetherness that Rowett speaks about stems from the last two games, where Derby County have picked up four points against sides above them in the table.

They impressively dispatched of Cardiff City at home, beating the Welsh side 3-1, before a 1-1 draw at Villa Park against fourth place Aston Villa.

These results have allowed Derby County to head into the final weekend knowing that their fate is in their own hands.
