Will Steven Gerrard pursue Rangers deal for Hull City goalkeeper?

BBC Sport reported last week that Scottish Premier League side Rangers were close to signing Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor on a free transfer.

Since then, the Glasgow giants have appointed former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard as their new manager and it will be interesting to see if he pursues the deal to bring the Scotland international back to Ibrox.

McGregor, who is 36-years-old, is set to leave Championship side Hull City in the summer as his current contract expires in June. He has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers and also with their SPL rivals Hearts.

The shot stopper has played for Rangers before. He started his career there and went onto play over 200 games for them before leaving in 2012 for Besiktas. The experienced number one was then brought back to the UK by Hull City a year later.

With Gerrard taking over at Rangers, this could leave his proposed deal in doubt. Here are some factors to consider over this transfer now and whether it will actually happen-

Yes…Allan McGregor is a vastly experienced goalkeeper and knows Rangers as a football club more than any other goalkeeper. He will also be a great figure to have in the dressing room and Gerrard will be well aware of this.

No… Gerrard may have other goalkeeping options in mind and may want to bring in his own players. Also, he might want a younger goalkeeper who would be more of a long-term option for him.
