West Ham linked with a move for Fulham goalkeeper

West Ham are eyeing a move for Fulham’s 25 year old goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, according to the Daily Mail.

The Hammers have struggled in the goalkeeping department this campaign, with both Adrian and Joe Hart jostling for the starting spot.

It appears that they have begun their search for a new man between the sticks, with Bettinelli high up on their shopping list.

The shot stopper signed a new deal with Fulham in the summer, which keeps him contracted at Craven Cottage until 2020.

The former England under twenty one international has been Slavisa Jokanovic’s number one this season, and the Serbian will be desperate to hang on to his man.

Fulham are currently embroiled in a promotion battle, but the Cottagers may be resigned to lose their goalkeeper if they fail to win promotion back to the Premier League.

A move to the Premier League would put Bettinelli in the eyeline of England manager Gareth Southgate, who has his own goalkeeping headaches ahead of the World Cup.

The 6ft 4in goalkeeper has been in impressive form for the London club this season.

He has kept 12 clean sheets in 25 starts this campaign.

He has kept more clean sheets than Jack Butland, Joe Hart, and Fraser Forster – albeit in a division below.

He has made 80 first team appearances for Fulham after coming through the Cottagers academy, and has now established himself as the first choice at the club.

A move to West Ham would be a step up for Bettinelli and would see him challenge for the number one jersey at the London Stadium.

However, he won’t come cheap after signing a deal with the club in August.
