Charlton takeover on hold until end of season

The takeover of Charlton Athletic has been put on hold until current owner Roland Duchatelet knows what division the club will be playing their football in next season, according to Sky Sports.

Charlton Athletic have virtually guaranteed their place in the Sky Bet League One Play-Offs, and need just a point in their final game to make it absolutely certain. Duchatelet will then wait to see whether or not they achieve promotion before agreeing to a deal.

Sky Sports write report that director Richard Murray told the Addicks fans that a price had been agreed with two separate parties in January, and that they could expect to see the takeover completed before February was out.

But according to the report from Sky Sports, the deal has now change, and “the price that any prospective owner will have to pay will directly depend upon whether Charlton win promotion to the Championship.”

Charlton and the EFL are both unable to comment on when a deal will be complete, but Sky Sports understand that it will be a matter of weeks rather than days.

The likelihood of Charlton Athletic getting promoted is relatively high following the appointment of Lee Bowyer.

He has a 66.6% win ratio, giving him the best opening ten games of any Charlton manager in their history.

And it’s fair to say he’s a big favourite with the fans, and if anyone can get them promoted, the Charlton faithful believe it will be him.

The Addicks had fallen away from the Play-Offs slightly under previous boss Karl Robinson, but Bowyer’s work has meant that Charlton’s season will extend beyond this weekend.
