The importance of Peterborough United signing off the season with a victory

It may be a game that means nothing in terms of achieving promotion or anything like that, but it is crucial for Peterborough United to end the 2017/18 campaign on a good note with victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

It has been a roller coaster season for Peterborough United. They started the season with four consecutive victories, and at that point, it seemed that things would be different this year.

Posh fans were soon let down again, and form began to tumble, and they gradually slid down the table.

Grant McCann lost his job in February, and was replaced with Steve Evans, and it is fair to say the majority of Posh fans have not taken too kindly to him.

He won his first few games, but four defeats in a row, including throwing away leads against Blackburn and Shrewsbury have meant that it will be another season in the third tier for Peterborough next season.

They may have ended their home campaign with a victory and a clean sheet against Fleetwood, but that’s not enough for Posh fans.

They are heading into the summer full of negativity, and who can blame them? The chances are they are going to lose both Jack Marriott and Marcus Maddison, two players who have been pivotal to Posh this season, and without them, they could be a lot closer to the bottom of the table.

Steve Evans does not have a brilliant track record when it comes to transfer windows, and Posh fans are worried.

A victory over Portsmouth in the final game this weekend may make the Posh faithful a bit more positive heading into the summer break, and it would give Marriott and Maddison the farewell they deserve.
