Colorado Rapids manager is a candidate for Sunderland job

Colorado Rapids manager Anthony Hudson is on Sunderland’s four-man shortlist for their vacant manager’s role, according to TEAMtalk.

The 37-year-old will be considered for the role along with Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, Wigan Athletic’s Paul Cook and former Oxford United boss Michael Appleton. The Black Cats have also been linked with Mick McCarthy, who is now available after leaving Ipswich Town.

Sunderland are in the hunt for a new manager after Chris Coleman was sacked last week after their takeover and relegation from the Championship. They are looking likely to step up their search for a new boss in the coning weeks.

Colorado Rapids manager Anthony Hudson is now a potential candidate for the role. The young boss has been in charge of the Major League Soccer side since November 2017.

Hudson, who was born in Seattle, played for West Ham United, Luton Town and NEC Nijmegen as a player. He has had an interesting coaching career so far and started out as manager of American side Real Maryland Monarchs at the age of 27.

He then went onto work in the Tottenham Hotspur academy and at Newport County before taking charge of the Bahrain Under-23’s in March 2012. Hudson was appointed manager of Bahrain’s senior squad in August 2013 and after a year in charge he was then appointed manager of New Zealand.

He spent three years in charge of the New Zealand national team before leaving and taking charge of Colorado Rapids in November 2017. That is where he has been since but could now be a target for Sunderland.
