Paul Hurst has emerged as the new 5/2 favourite on SkyBet for the Ipswich Town job.

The current Shrewsbury Town boss has done an impressive job with the League One side and could be rewarded by being handed a Championship.

Other names such as Chris Coleman, who has recently been sacked by relegated Sunderland, and former striker Shefki Kuqi have been mentioned but it is Paul Hurst who now leads the race.

Ipswich are in the hunt for a new manager after Mick McCarthy left them last month after five years in charge of the Portman Road club. They may now have found their man in Paul Hurst.

Hurst will be preparing for the League One Play-Offs with Shrewsbury Town after his side missed on the automatic promotion places to Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers. However, he would have taken 3rd place at the start of the season as his side were one of the pre-season favourites for relegation.

The 43-year-old played for Rotherham United and Burton Albion in his playing days. As a manager, he has had spells at Ilkeston Town, Boston United, Grimsby Town and now Shrewsbury.

It will be interesting to see who Ipswich Town go for. If they want an experienced manager who has managed in the Championship before then they will most likely opt for Coleman. However, if they want a young and hungry boss with a fresh approach then Hurst is certainly in with a shout.
