Mitrovic, Wolves interested in Newcastle striker

Wolves interested in Newcastle striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Serbian forward has spent the second half of the season on loan at Fulham, and has been in scintillating form for the Cottagers.

The striker has scored 12 goals in 13 appearances for the London club and he has been a huge part of Fulham’s serge towards the Premier League.

His Newcastle career looks to be over, after spending 3 years with the club.

This season he has failed to nail down a starting spot in Rafa Benitez’s side, after finding first team opportunities hard to come by.

There are thought to be a number of suitors keen on Mitrovic’s signature, with Wolves battling to land the striker.

It is thought that the Magpies will set a £20m price tag for Mitrovic, and let the admiring clubs fight for their man.

The Toon paid £13m for Mitrovic from Anderlecht in 2015, and Newcastle are looking to make a profit on the Serbian who has failed to establish himself in the North East.

In 65 appearances for Newcastle, Mitrovic scored 14 goals during his time in both the Premier League and the Championship with the Magpies.

Brighton & Hove Albion had a bid turned down for the forward during the January transfer window.

Wolves will be playing their football in the Premier League next season and will need signings in the summer to help bolster the squad.

Mitrovic is a proven goalscorer who has Premier League experience, and would be a fantastic acquisition for Nuno’s side.
