Nottingham Forest player waves goodbye to club

Chris Cohen played his final game at the City Ground last weekend in what was an emotional occasion for those in Red.

Cohen has announced his retirement from professional football after his career started at West Ham in 2003.

Cohen first signed for the Reds back in 2007, following a move from Yeovil Town and has played a total of 303 games for Nottingham Forest.

Despite suffering for several seasons with injury, Cohen will always be remembered as a legend with the Forest faithful.

His final home game came in the shape of a 0-0 draw with Bristol City. Forest did have an opportunity to win the game when they were awarded a penalty. Former Bristol City attacker Lee Tomlin stood up but couldn’t find the net.

Coming on as a substitute in the 89th minute for Tomlin, Cohen received a standing ovation from everybody inside the City Ground.

Cohen spoke to the club website after the game, reminiscing over his 11-year spell with the East Midland’s club:

“I am overwhelmed by the nice things that people are saying, the reaction I got when I came on and was warming up, from the lads in the changing room and the manager and from everyone.

“It has been a long time at the club but you are still very humbled by the reaction to that being my last ever game.

“I have loved every minute of it. I have lived the dream and I hope that is the way that it has come across in the way that I have trained, played and been around the place.

“I know it has been tough at times with the injuries but I know that I have enjoyed every minute of it and it is onto the next phase of my career now.

“I knew it was the right decision around Christmas time. At the end of last season I genuinely thought I would have another year or two in me, but it hasn’t worked out that way unfortunately.

“I have been working with the Under 23s, with Gareth Holmes, and I have enjoyed it. That is the path that I will look to go down in the future.”
