Middlesbrough loanee prefers move away from the club

  1. Middlesbrough loanee Martin Braithwaite has said that he would favour a move away from the Championship side at the end of the season. The Danish-international is currently on-loan at French outfit Bordeaux.

Speaking to the official Bordeaux website, Braithwaite stated that although he had not particularly discussed his plans for the future, it would be better to continue in France as opposed to England. But the forward didn’t rule out returning to his parent club either.

“I do not know, [about my future], I have not talked to the owners yet” he said. “What I’m sure of is that I want to play next season. If it’s here, it will be better. Otherwise, it will be good too.”

Braithwaite scored six goals in 21 games in England with Middlesbrough. Although not a great return for a natural striker, he was often played out of position. Garry Monk wanted the Dane to play, but he was second-choice to summer signing Britt Assombalonga.

The forward was deployed mainly as a number ten in-behind Assombalonga, or out wide on the left.

He was a fan favourite at the Riverside, and many questioned the decision to allow him to leave on-loan after only a few months at the club. But the change of management may have disrupted his time on Teesside, and caused him to make his move back to France.

Despite being in the dark about what club he will be playing football at next season, Braithwaite remained up beat.

“I do not know what the future will offer me. I just know it will be good, I’m a positive person. I must be! So I see a wonderful future for me.”
