Bradford City will be hoping to keep their faint promotion hopes alive when they take on Southend United at The Northern Commercials Stadium at Valley Parade this afternoon.

The Bantams are six points adrift of Scunthorpe United who occupy the final play-off spot but hold a game in hand over many of their promotion rivals and victory over latest opponents Southend United should at least see them remain in contention until the next game.

Bradford City manager Simon Grayson has a number of injury concerns to contend with ahead of the meeting with The Shrimpers. Defender Ryan McGowan is unlikely to play again this season while midfielder Jake Reeves and striker Alex Jones have also had their campaigns ended early by injury. Winger Tyrell Robinson will miss out with an ongoing shoulder problem.

Visitors Southend United arrive in West Yorkshire on the back of two consecutive league wins and Chris Powell’s men have enjoyed a solid campaign.

The Essex outfit are expected to be without goalkeeper Ted Smith and defenders Ben Coker, Rob Keirnan and Michael Turner as they look to leapfrog Bradford City in the league table. Manager Powell is likely to consider recalls for experienced frontmen Michael Kightly and Marc-Antoine Fortune.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm with post-match reaction to follow on The72 website.
