Wigan have been promoted back to the Championship after an thrilling 4-0 win at Fleetwood Town this weekend.
Wigan’s 4-0 win at Fleetwood all but sealed promotion back to the Championship but it was Shrewsbury’s draw against already-relegated Bury which pushed them over the line.
Wigan put in a incredible and comfortable performance where they never looked in trouble against Fleetwood Town, who had new boss Joey Barton watching on from the stands, and goals from Max Power and Gavin Massey sent them in 2-0 up at the break.
Dan Burn and Chey Dunkley goals rounded off the win to seal promotion.
With three games left all Wigan need is seven points and that will be enough to see Paul Cook’s side break 100 points and finish the season as champions.
Wigan chairman was delighted to see his side promoted back to the Championship.
He told BBC Sport: “It’s been a perfect year”
“The FA Cup run, now being promoted, and now we just want to seal it and win the league because this group of players deserve that and the manager deserves it.”
“We had a bad season last season and we needed to get this one right and with Paul Cook, he’s been unbelievable all season,” he said.
“The players he’s brought in, the players he’s picked up off the floor and got going again.
“You can’t give enough credit to Paul, the players, what they’ve achieved this season has been remarkable.
“Beating Man City, beating West Ham, beating Bournemouth and winning promotion and hopefully winning the league, it’s different class.”

Relief more than happiness that we’ll get promoted this season. #wafc come strong this week as #rovers have grounded out results. Fair play to #salop that defeat against Lin’ has knocked them. Hope they go up in playoffs. Best 3 teams in the league.

Gavin Massey has gone from relegation from League Two with Leyton Orient to promotion from League One & a cup quarter final with Wigan in 12 months.
Don't let anyone tell you football is just a game. It's so much more than that. #lofc #wafc

Another promotion for Paul Cook at #wafc on a day when #Pompey slim hopes of joining them in the Championship effectively disappeared. Two promotions in two seasons – and in two jobs that came with their own distinct pressures. Cook should be praised immensely for that.

@shrewsweb I’d just like to congratulate you, your players and all the Shrewsbury supporters for an outstanding fight all season. I genuinely hope you make it up through the playoffs to join us next season and I’m sure most #wafc fans would agree. #Salop 👏
