Preston North End are chasing Oxford United midfielder

Preston North End will make a move for Oxford United’s midfielder Ryan Ledson in the summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Preston North End had two bids rejected in January from Oxford United for Ryan Ledson, according to Oxford Mail. Following this, Preston are believed to be lining up a new £1 million bid for the midfielder in the summer.

Preston North End boss Alex Neil and Peter Ridsdale, an advisor to club owner Trevor Hemmings, have kept a close eye on Ryan Ledson and have watched him play a number of times this season.

The midfielder is an England under-19 international who joined Oxford on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee in August 2016.

The highly rated youngster began his career at Everton when he was five years old, signing his first pro deal on his 17th birthday.

Ryan Ledson has impressively been capped by England at under 16, under 17, under 18, under 19 and under 20 levels.

In May 2014 he was part of the squad that won the UEFA European under-17 Championship, captaining the side and earning a place in the UEFA team of the tournament.

The midfielder has made 42 league appearances for Oxford this season and has scored three goals. He could be a replacement for the experienced Paul Gallagher, who’s future at Preston is unclear.

They certainly won’t want him to depart the club, if he does decide to leave Oxford, it will be a big blow for Karl Robinson’s men but they do have a lot of quality in their midfield such as Joe Rothwell and Cameron Brannagan.
