Nottingham Forest want free transfer deal for Burnley midfielder

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Burnley midfielder Dean Marney this summer, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The 34-year-old is out of contract with the Clarets at the end of the season meaning he can leave them for free. Nottingham Forest are therefore eager to bring him to the City Ground.

Dean Marney has had his fair share of injury problems this season and has not featured for Burnley in the Premier League. It is unlikely that they will offer him a new deal.

He is an experienced midfielder and would be a shrewd signing by the Reds. He has played over 400 games in his career and is an established player at Championship level.

Nottingham Forest are expected to have a bust summer transfer window as Aitor Karanka looks to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. He likes to have experience in his ranks and obviously sees Marney as someone who can add something to his squad.

Marney started his career at Tottenham Hotspur but never nailed down a spot in their first-team as a youngster. Instead he had loan spells at Swindon Town, QPR, Gillingham and Norwich City before leaving Spurs on a permanent deal to join Hull City in 2006.

He helped the Tigers gain promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and spent two seasons with them in the top flight before leaving them for Burnley in 2010. He has been at Turf Morr ever since but could be on his way to Forest this summer.
