Derby County keen on swoop for Birmingham City winger

Derby County are interested in a move for Birmingham City winger Viv Soloman-Otobar, as per a report by the Derby Telegraph.

The Rams boss Gary Rowett knows the promising midfielder well from managing him at Birmingham and now wants to bring him to the IPro Stadium. He is eager to bolster his attacking options for next season and Soloman-Otobar could fit the bill.

The 22-year-old has spent this season on loan at League One side Blackpool and has been in good form for Gary Bowyer’s side. He has played 44 games in all competitions for them, scoring 5 goals. He is set to return to Birmingham at the end of the season, where he is under contract until 2019, but they could face a battle to hold onto him.

Soloman-Otobar played for Hampton and Richmond and Crystal Palace as a youngster before joining Birmingham in 2012. He was loaned out to non-league side Oxford City in 2014 and gained first-team experience.

Gary Rowett handed Soloman-Otobar his Blues debut in August 2015 in a League Cup tie against Gillingham. He went onto play 25 games for Birmingham that season and won the Young Player of the Season that year. However, he fell down the pecking order and was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers last season.

He was then sent to Blackpool for this campaign and has shown that he still has a future in the Championship. The Blues will now have to see off interest from the Rams and try and hold onto him this summer.
