Liverpool in ‘ongoing’ transfer negotiations to land Championship star

When Portuguese starlet Ruben Neves moved to Championship side Wolves ahead of this season, it was a £15 million move that raised both eyebrows and the bar for transfers in the second tier of English football.

His season at the Black Country side has been one of personal success as part of a Wolves side that has steamrollered their way towards the Premier League. Now, with his growing stature, it seems that Premier League big guns Liverpool are steamrollering their way towards him according to Portuguese journalist Marcus Alves in an article written for FourFourTwo.

His move to Wolves has caused a degree of controversy, what with his career being managed by Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes, given Mendes’ links to Wolves. This latter fact has raised eyebrows in the Championship, after being mentioned by Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani as something of an unfair advantage.

This growing furore has prompted the Premier League to look into the Mendes-Wolves links ahead of Wolves ascension to the top tier of English football. However, despite all that going on Liverpool are said by Alves to be more than keen on bringing the prodigiously talented Neves to Anfield to join a side full of potent attacking weapons.

Quoting the ubiquitous ‘sources’, and pouring a little scorn on Neves’ declarations that he is wanting to stay at Wolves next season, Alves says that “the outstanding midfielder has an ongoing negotiation with Liverpool,” before going on to state that Neves “can leave Molineux if the Merseyside board comes in with the right offer.”

Alves also says in his FourFourTwo article that there could be some movement with regard to Liverpool’s interest. Admitting that a deal is “far from reached,” Alves said that Neves’ entourage were recently over in England and were told that a deal for the young Portuguese midfielder “could advance in the coming weeks.”
