‘Lack of egos’ the reason for Championship success says Millwall striker

Millwall striker Steve Morrison believes that a lack of egos in the Lions dressing room, and a brilliant spirit, is the reason for their success in the Championship so far.

The Lions, who were only promoted last season, currently sit in sixth place with three games to go, and have given themselves a real chance of making the Playoffs come the end of the season.

Speaking to BBC Radio London, Morrison said “Everyone is together so you don’t have to worry about egos.”

“Everyone is on the same pay grade and no-one is in a completely different category to anyone else.”

Nobody had envisaged the season that Millwall have had. The Lions are on a 17 match unbeaten run which has seen them rapidly rise up the table. The last time Millwall tasted defeat in the league was on New Years Day suffering a 2-1 defeat to Norwich, but 17 games unbeaten has seen them move from 15th to the Playoff places.

Morrison said “The spirit in the camp and the relaxed nature we have got is really good,”

“It’s funny but I’m still waiting for that day that someone walks through the dressing room with an ego. If that happens you know the place is going in the wrong direction.”

As well as the relaxed atmosphere in the squad, the former Welsh international believes that the players brought in by manager Neil Harris have had a big impact on their achievements this season.

“The gaffer has put a really good group together of good players who fit in,” the 34 year old said.

“Those people who have got tens-of-million-pound budgets and are paying people 30, 40 or 50 grand a week are supposed to be in the play-offs. They are the teams that we are turning over every week because we want it a little bit more than them.”

The Lions welcome fellow Londoners Fulham to The Den on Friday night in a crucial promotion battle for both teams.
