Aston Villa to battle with Premier League duo for Ligue 1 striker

Championship side Aston Villa will rekindle their interest in Strasbourg striker Stephane Bahoken in the summer, according to The Sun.

Villa boss Steve Bruce tried the forward in January but could not get a deal over the line. Nevertheless, Bahoken is out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to leave Strasbourg for free so Villa could try again.

However, they will face competition from Swansea City and Stoke City. The Swans, who are managed by ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal, are reportedly leading the race for the 25-year-old forward.

Bahoken has scored 8 goals for Strasbourg this season in Ligue 1 and has been a key player for the side who were promoted last season. He also made his debut for Cameroon in March against Kuwait.

He started his career in France with Nice, of whom he joined when he was 12. He struggled to nail down a first-team spot as a youngster and was loaned out to Scottish Premier League side St Mirren in August 2013.

On his return to Nice, Bahoken was allowed to leave them on a permanent deal to join Strasbourg. They were in the third tier when he joined in 2014 but he has helped them get back-to-back promotions to Ligue 1.

Aston Villa’s chances of landing him could depend on whether they are in the Premier League next season or not, as it is likely that Bahoken would prefer a move to the first tier.
