Leeds United, Celtic and Southampton target Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kieren Westwood is a target for Leeds United, Celtic and Southampton, according to The Sun.

The 33-year-old shot stopper has played 18 times for the Owls this season in the Championship but has been ruled out since December with a groin injury. However, this has not stopped clubs showing an interest.

Prior to his injury, Westwood had been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the division and was a key player for Sheffield Wednesday. He still has a year left on his contract but the Owls could face a battle to hold onto him this summer. He has been with them since 2014 after joining them from Sunderland.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds United are being linked with him. Their boss, Paul Heckingbottom, may see him as someone who can bolster their goalkeeping options for next season.

Premier League side Southampton are also being credited with an interest in the Republic of Ireland international. The Saints could be in the Championship but want to add some more competition for Alex McCarthy and the out of favour Fraser Forster.

Scottish Premier League champions Celtic have had their goalkeeping issues this season after injuries to their number one, Craig Gordon. They have had Scott Bain on loan from Dundee but his future at Celtic Park is uncertain. Therefore, they may see Keiren Westwood as an ideal signing.
