Nottingham Forest are on the verge of signing former England under-21 international Michael Mancienne.
A fee believed to be around £1.5million has been agreed with Bundesliga side Hamburg and according to the Telegraph manager Stuart Pearce flew back to London from their training camp to hold talks with the defender on Monday. Mancienne was a key player under Pearce whilst he was in charge of the under-21’s and moved to Germany back in 2011 after beginning his career with Chelsea.
Hamburg have been looking to shift some of their higher earners after almost being relegated last season and Mancienne was part of a defence that conceded a Bundesliga-high 75 goals last season. However, at 26 he should be coming into his prime years as a centre-back and a return to England could be the catalyst to re-spark his once promising career.
