Five players Middlesbrough should sell in the summer window

Middlesbrough’s season is still up in the air, and with Tony Pulis’ side in 7th position, their Play-Off hopes are far from over.

Middlesbrough were one of the favourites to be promoted this season. But they have stuttered towards the top six, with inconsistencies costing the Teessiders’ a chance at automatic promotion.

The squad has been rejuvenated under Pulis’ guidance and he has got the best out of players signed by previous managers. He hadn’t had much time to distinguish who he favoured by the time the January transfer window rolled around, and the summer will be the best opportunity for the Welshman to make the squad his own.

Here are five players Middlesbrough should sell in the summer window.

Tomás Mejías

The Spanish goalkeeper signed from Real Madrid has never really solidified his place at Middlesbrough since arriving on Teesside. Tomas Mejias was brought in by Aitor Karanka, who had worked with the shot-stopper in the Spanish capital with Jose Mourinho.

But calamitous mistakes in the Boro goal meant results slipped away, along with Mejias’ chances of a starting berth from there on out.

The only reason the former Madrid man is still at the club is because of his heroic performances in Middlesbrough’s cup competitions over the past few years. He was the man-of-the-match in their penalties win against Manchester United two seasons ago, and equally against Manchester City a year earlier, and is considered somewhat a cult hero amongst Boro fans.

However, he has not made an appearance so far this season. It would make sense for both parties to part company in the summer.
