Five players Leeds United must sign to go forward next season

Jack Marriott (Peterborough United)

According to reports in the Press today, Peterborough have set their price for Marriott and are believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £5 million. Now, let’s make no bones about that valuation, £5 million is a lot of anyone’s money. But with goals at a premium, with clubs looking for a regular goal threat, it is a figure that does buy you goals – and lots of them too.

The Beverley-born 23-year-old has 25 Sky Bet League One goals to his name, as well as four assists for Posh. Fed by the attacking midfield that Leeds United have in Pablo Hernandez, Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski, fans would expect goals and goals aplenty from Marriott. As Leeds showed last night in the 3-1 away defeat at Preston, they are in need of a finisher in front of goal and Marriott is just that.

Bobby Reid (Bristol City)

Should Leeds United not want to risk testing the waters with Jack Marriott then they may wish to try their luck with a bid for Bristol City forward Bobby Reid. This season the 25-year-old has come alive and has 18 Sky Bet Championship goals to his name as well as an impressive six assists. With Leeds United fans crying out for a striker who isn’t one-dimensional and who offers more to his game, Reid could just be that man.

However, despite his contract being up at the end of June, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Robins will offer him a new deal. Just on his output this season alone, and City’s position in the table relative to Leeds, expect that Andrea Radrizzani will have to dig deep into his back pocket to finance a deal should the Whites want to press for Reid. It is also likely that he would require assurances as to the direction Leeds United would be going next season – hopefully not downwards.

The final two players could help pack out the Leeds United side, giving the Whites options that they don’t have at the moment.
