Aston Villa keen on summer swoop for Queens Park Rangers midfielder

Aston Villa are keen on a summer move for QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo, as per a report by HITC Sport.

The Australian international has had an impressive season for the Championship side and is attracting interest from elsewhere. Aston Villa have been credited with an interest as well as Premier League side Crystal Palace and Spanish La Liga outfit Malaga.

The 25-year-old is expected to be in the Australia squad heading for the Russia World Cup in the summer. He still has two years left on his contract at QPR but is expected to be the subject of interest from other clubs at the end of the season.

Massimo Luongo has played 106 times for QPR since he signed for them in 2015 from Swindon Town. He has been in fine form this season especially and has scored 6 goals so far.

He was born in Sydney but moved to England to pursue a career in football in 2011. He joined Tottenham Hotpsur but never broke into their team. He gained first-team experience during loan spells at Ipswich Town and Swindon Town.

He signed for Swindon on a permanent deal in 2013 for just £400,000 and played for them for three seasons before QPR paid £3.5 million to lure him to Loftus Road.

He is one of QPR’s key players and is one who they will not want to lose. He would be a very impressive signing by Aston Villa, who could be playing in the Premier League next season with them currently occupying one of the Play-Off places in the Championship.
